Like the title you always get what you asked for just not in the way you think it will be handed to you. Like the age-old be careful what you wish for with a gene saying, you have to watch out for how you word it and at what price it comes with.
For example my mother, for many years growing up, had wished she had money to get her chest done in either a smaller size and perkier. It was one of her items of never going to happen wish list that we all make, winning the mega lottery is another. Well fast forward to March 2017, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, fast forward even more to August 24th my mom got a double mastectomy. So now she is eligible for plastic surgery for new boobs, perkier new boobs.
So need less to say she got her wish, just not how she wanted it. God is known for giving just not in the way we expect, it is like it’s a lesson that need to be learned. Take, for instance, what Desiring God said in an article linked here
Many of the greatest gifts and deepest joys that God gives us come wrapped in painful packages
Meaning to me, a lesson needs to be learned and everything has a price that needs to be paid. My advise when asking for something, make sure it’s what you really want, make sure it’s want God wants too because it comes at a cost.
Say thanks to the Lord for what he has given you because every little thing is a gift from him we don’t always see it. Be patient with him when asking him for things because if he is making you wait you’re in good company.
Another example of ask and he shall receive, Matthew 7:7. When I was in high school, I didn’t have a whole lot of friends I could call BFF material, most of them only called when they wanted something. I had one friend who felt true but we have since lost contact. Well when I started dating my first love, I found out he was cheating on me the whole time (which was almost 1 1/2 years), I was a devastated 15-year-old with no true friends. You can probably imagine the over dramatic teen age me crying “he cheated!” At that time I didn’t believe a whole lot in God but I knew of him, so I asked him briefly to send me someone who would truly love me and be my friend. Someone who can love me unconditionally!
Well a month after I asked found out I was pregnant by him, needless to say we didn’t work out but my son was my gift I had asked for, I just didn’t realize that’s what he was. Lestat loves me unconditionally, he is my little bud and we have had many adventures. Three years after that I met my husband, he is my match even though we don’t see eye to eye, he loves me unconditionally! Now we have a family of three and they love me, I don’t have to ask to be loved and my husband is my best friend! Psalms 34:4
God saved me when I asked to be saved, just not how I expected. He gave me a friend to spend the rest of my life with and a family that fills me with love everyday, even through the bad days!
