S.O.A.P

Not a lot of people know what that is, both in hygienic and terms, however today it isn’t meaning hygienic.

S.O.A.P is a term for bible studying, it’s when you take a scripture, break it down, and ponder over it then pray about it. It’s easier done than said. Each letter represents something you have to write.

S

stands for scripture duh, joking, always start by writing the book, the chapter, and the verse. Then write the verse out

Example: John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I always try to write it out because it helps me feel for the scripture. I get a better understanding than reading it

O

Stands for observation. What do you get from it? Why? What can you learn from it? There are so many questions you can use for the observation part, point out details. Meditate over the scripture for a moment, What is the Holy ghost telling you about it?

A

Stands for application, I have seen a couple of people use it as appreciation but most use it as application. Write down how you can apply what you have read and written down about the scripture. What areas of you life could use it?

P

Stands for Prayer, always pray about your findings and what you have learned or can learn. Thank God for opening your eyes and seeing something new!

I have done a lot of this method on the same scripture because sometimes, each time I do it, I learn something new. It all depends on where I am at in my life! There have been times where I don’t k ow what to put or ask in my head what can I learn, others I wrote down two paragraphs of information from one scripture.

You can also use this method for chapters but it’s harder to do so, in my opinion. Sometimes you have to pull back and read two or three verses two understand what that verse is saying. So why don’t you give it a chance yea, take a bath in his word with S.O.A.P!
